Byron sweeps Bentley, moves on to district finals

BURTON - Kelsey Philburn dealt eight aces as Byron swept Burton Bentley in a Class C district semifinal volleyball match Wednesday.

The Eagles won 25-14, 25-7, 25-16 at Burton Bendle High School. Next up for Byron is tonight's 6 p.m. district title game vs. Burton Atherton.

Moriah Thompson supplied 12 kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks for the winners (24-22-5). Philburn added nine digs and three kills while Rebekah Lahring had 20 assists, eight digs, two aces and one kill.

“I thought serving was what kept us in the match tonight and the kids really did a great job,” said Byron coach Karly Cocke.

Byron had opened the district tournament by beating Flint Hamady 25-15, 25-12, 25-8.
