Frank ‘Fritz' Stasa

Age 84, of Bancroft, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Ingham Regional Medical Center from the complications of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel, 1106 S. Washington with Mr. Thomas Bradley officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mausoleum chapel.

Frank was born in Elsie on March 7, 1925, the son of Joseph C. and Pauline (Smetka) Stasa. He married Alice Zruna on Aug. 20, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2004.

Frank served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Stasa worked in skilled trades at GM's Flint Metal Fab as a tinsmith. He also owned and operated his own farm, fulfilling a life-long dream. He was a member of the ZCBJ and Corunna VFW. He loved to play the accordion and to sing. As a younger man, he raced around the track in car No. 9 as a stock car driver.

Surviving him are daughters Suzanne Stasa (Bob Warden) of California, Sallie Goldman of Texas, Sheryl Mattingly of Indiana, and Lori (John) Schlaack of Michigan; eight grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; sisters Millie Horak (Emil Heinz) of Florida and Helen Perry of Florida; brother Jim (Muggs) Stasa of Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; wife Alice; and sons Kevin and Daniel.

Memorials are suggested to the Make a Wish Foundation, in honor of Matthew Schlaack, a survivor.
