After a heroic battle with cancer, Walter Wayne Kidd, age 71, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Memorial Healthcare Center.

Mr. Kidd was born in Owosso on Jan. 4, 1938, to Walter and Dorothy (Burtis) Kidd and lived most of his life in Owosso, attending schools in Shiawassee County.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Nelson-House Funeral Home, with Pastor Kenneth Herbruck officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 8 pm.

In 1959, he married Doris Reed of Troy. Together they raised four children. On Aug. 16, 2002, she preceded him in death, after 43 years of marriage. On Oct. 4, 2008, he married Wilma Jean Watkins, who survives him.

Walter was a factory worker, having worked at Mid-West Abrasives, Nero Plastics and retiring from General Motors. In his younger years, he was a scuba diver for a rescue service, a private investigator and a clothing model, all in the Detroit area.

Walter was well-known for his beautiful yard and flower beds, spending many hours maintaining them. He owned property near DeTour Village, where he loved to spend time. He loved his family and they were the center of his life. He was affiliated with the Owosso Assembly of God, the Union Presbyterian Church in DeTour Village and the U.A.W.

He is survived by his wife Wilma; sons Dan (Karen) Kidd of Owosso, Scott (Vanessa) Kidd of Tucson, Ariz., and Tim Kidd of Owosso; daughter Gaye (Mark) Shack of Flint; stepson Richard (Renee) Watkins of Millington; grandson Mark (Stephanie) Bila; granddaughter Angela Miller; great-grandchildren Jason David, Nykita, Taylar, Dreyden and Addison; brother Donald (Deloris) Kidd of Toledo, Ohio. Also surviving are three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a host of in-laws, cousins and all his pals at Tim Hortons.
