Elmer Arlo Walter

Age 83, of Elsie, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6. Pastor Herb Wheelock will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Elmer was born in Saginaw County on Nov. 16, 1925, the only son of Arlo and Florence (Sharp) Walter. Elmer married Doris Beeman on Sept. 13, 1947, at Ovid Congregational Church. Elmer resided most of his life in Fairfield Township and attended the Chapin United Methodist Church in Elsie.

Elmer retired from Motor Wheel of Lansing as a maintenance welder in 1988, and was a farmer his entire life. Elmer enjoyed hunting and trapping. He liked to winter in Florida, enjoyed going to Gospel Concerts and loved to plant trees enjoying all of nature.

He is survived by his wife Doris Walter of Elsie; daughters Nancy and Jeffery Debo of Holly, Marsha Walter of Elsie and Pamela Grasso of Owosso; sons Mark Walter of Elsie and Jim and Kara Walter of Elsie; grandchildren Cory Wilson, Jackie Walter, Mindy Walter, Ben Walter, Erin and Eric Bonnette, Shawn Debo, Dante Grasso, Tony Grasso, Amber Drury and Caitlyn Walter. Elmer is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Arlo; mother Florence Walter Robinson; stepfather Lloyd Robinson; and his grandson Derek Wilson.
