Elsie M. Stuart

Age 96, of Oakley, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center.

Elsie was a wonderful homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow at West Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Elsie was born on June 13, 1913, in Henderson, the daughter of Martin and Mae (Richards) Jones. She attended schools in Henderson and later graduated from the Owosso Business College. Upon graduation, she worked for the Michigan State Police in Lansing.

On Oct. 17, 1944, she married Charles LeRoy Stuart at the Easton Church of Christ. She was a very active member of the Henderson Church of Christ, and held almost every leadership position within the church. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting and was well known for her cooking skills.

Survivors include her sons Ernest M. (Marilyn) Stuart of Roscommon and William (Ruth) Stuart of Owosso; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1996; and brothers Floyd and Vern Jones.
