REESE - New Lothrop's volleyball team lost in the first-round of the Class C districts Monday. Reese defeated the No. 8-ranked Hornets 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-17.
New Lothrop, which was aiming for its 11th district title in the past 12 years, ended the season at 50-11-3. Reese improved to 27-7-3.
“There were a lot of tears tonight,” New Lotrop coach Sheri Warner said. “We're disappointed we lost, but the kids played well. They (Reese) should be ranked. I've been around the team long enough to realize that they are a very good team. They have height at every position.”
Monica Confer had 19 kills, 18 digs and one ace for New Lothrop. Rachelle Kviz had 17 kills, 11 digs and four aces. Kayla Henige had 35 assists, seven digs and 7 kills. Jen Birchmeier had 13 digs while Hilary Krupp had 19 digs.
“We don't regret playing our very aggressive and tough schedule - it's what got us this far,” Warner said.
