Kathleen Root

Age 82, of Durand, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at her home.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 700 E. Columbia Dr., Durand. Fr. J. Thomas Munley will officiate with burial taking place in Union Plains Cemetery, Byron.
The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Love Chapel in Bancroft, today from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and again at St. Mary's Friday one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Root was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Burns Township, the daughter of Ward and Nellie (Hartman) Cole. She graduated from Byron High School with the class of 1942. On Aug. 5, 1944, she married Claude Root in Bastrop, Texas, and together they raised five children. Claude preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Root was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family, the Upper Peninsula, wildlife, feeding birds and was an avid reader.
Mrs. Root is survived by her children: Claudeen (Robert) Blastic of Laingsburg, Therese (Frederick) Bruso of Laingsburg, Janet (Robert) Cook of Hartland, Laurie (Roger) Bialik of Grandville and Everett (Lisa) Root of Haslett; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother Gerald (Helen) Cole of Bancroft; sister Marjorie Hammond of Lansing; sisters-in-law Lois Cole of Bancroft and Margaret Cole of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by both parents; husband Claude; and brothers Donald and Convis Cole.
