NewsCandidates for board share ideasBy NATHAN BRUTTELL, Argus-Press Staff WriterOWOSSO - The debate between Republicans Mark Hanna and Randy Woodworth focused more on what the candidates had in common than their differences.
The Shiawassee County Commissioner candidates in District 6 were asked questions about their backgrounds in business translating to the betterment of the county and sources for alternative energy. Both candidates work as commercial real estate agents and said they would use their background to benefit the community. “My experience constitutes as an asset to the county,” Hanna said. “I would like to create some set laws regarding new taxes. I also want to have a cleanup day for issues that have been hanging out in the county for a long time ” Woodworth said he would focus on bringing jobs to Shiawassee. “I'm focusing on bring companies that aren't here to the community rather than just moving people around,” he said. The candidates saw eye-to-eye on bringing alternative energy sources to the county. “Alternative energy seems to be the bandwagon everyone wants to jump on,” Woodworth said. “But it's a good one to jump on.” Hanna said he wants to bring wind farms to the county. “One of the first things I would like to do is amend the land use plans to incorporate wind farms,” he said. “Plus, I would like to be consistent with our state's initiatives.” Woodworth said he liked Hanna's plan. “Too bad we're running against each other,” Woodworth said. “I couldn't agree more.” Hanna agreed the two had similar views on the issues. “I'd love to have you come work for me,” he said. - Contact Nathan Bruttell at 725-5136 extension 231 or nbruttellarguspress@gmail.com. |
