FLINT - Terry J. Strauss pleaded guilty to robbing the Fifth-Third Bank on M-21 in Corunna during a plea hearing Tuesday in Federal Court.
Court records show Strauss, 20, also pleaded guilty to using a firearm during a crime of violence for the Jan. 5 robbery.
Judge Sean Cox will sentence Strauss Oct. 1 in Flint's U.S. District Court.
Four other charges against Strauss in connection with two robberies in Holly and Argentine Township may be dropped at sentencing as part of the plea agreement.
Strauss' uncle, Michael S. Muller, 35, had a plea hearing Tuesday afternoon. A federal court clerk said today the outcome of the hearing is not available. Muller will go to trial June 10 if he did not plea.
The two men entered the Corunna bank shortly after 9 a.m. Jan. 5 with their faces covered. Strauss carried a semi-automatic pistol, court records indicate.
Bank tellers purposely put two partially mutilated $20 and five $2 bills within the bag Muller demanded. Court records show police discovered the money inside a bag discarded by the men.
A man saw the men exiting the bank and called 911. The man then followed the culprits, throwing them off their escape route Strauss told police.
Court records state police arrested the men on Kirby Road shortly after the heist. Strauss admitted to investigators he planned the robbery in Corunna, as well as the ones in Holly and Argentine Township.
